After receiving community input from neighbors of Winnebago Park in June 2016 and again in December 2016, the Skokie Park District will celebrate the park's playground renovation with a grand opening, tonight at 6:30 p.m.

"This evening, after a few brief remarks and a ribbon-cutting, the children in the neighborhood will be free to play on Skokie's newest playground," said Mike Rea, the district's superintendent of parks.

Located at 8315 Knox Ave., a few blocks southeast of Main Street and Skokie Boulevard, the park occupies only eight-tenths of an acre and is considered a "mini-park" in the Park District's master plan. The park was slated for renovation in 2021, however, neighbors convinced the park district to move planned renovation up the schedule, due to its heavy use.

"The last time the park was renovated and the playground completely replaced was in 1993," said Executive Director John Ohrlund. "There had been some minor improvements since then, but no major work in the intervening years. We are so pleased to have given this important Skokie park a much-needed facelift."
