The Chicago Figure Skating Club’s Chicago Jazz won the gold medal at last weekend’s 'Spring Cup' International Synchronized Ice Skating Competition in Milan, Italy.

After nearly three years of environmental cleanup work, the 17.4-acre piece of land on the southwest corner of McCormick Boulevard and Oakton Street will soon be ready for development by the Skokie Park District.

For visitors who have viewed the Exploritorium on the Skokie Park District web site, or mapped the popular children’s imagination playground on Google Maps, they can now take a 360° photo tour of the facility, allowing them to see what they are going to experience before they ever step inside.

The Oakton Community Center will soon be transformed into a miniature Times Square, complete with a DJ, balloon artist, crafts, games, prizes, a family entertainer, and a “countdown to noon” balloon drop.​

The Skokie Park District board of commissioners approved a $3-4 million renovation plan for the 20-year-old Weber Leisure Center and Fitness First health club at their regular November meeting last week.

Perhaps Skokie's most unique children's destination, The Exploritorium, the park district's imagination playground located in the Oakton Community Center, just launched a dedicated new website for its customers at www.Exploritorium.org.

Jill Shellabarger, the director of the parks district's award-winning Still Acting Up senior theater troupe, retired today after the group's final staging of their 2015 show, "Hi-Tech." Shellabarger directed the troupe for more than a decade. She will continue to work as an actor in and around Chicago, bringing her unique talents to the stage, screen and radio. As a tribute to Shellabarger, the park district is re-running a story featured on this website in June 2014. Good luck, Jill!
