But for a little bit of rain on Saturday morning, this year's Backlot Bash crowds were bigger than ever, making the ten-year-old event one of the most successful since its inception in 2007.

The carnival portion of the Bash brought in its largest attendance ever, and sales at the beer tent also scored record numbers.

"Day crowds seem to be growing every year," said event organizer Michelle Tuft. "And the attendance for all three of our headliners packed Oakton Street and the surrounding off-street areas of the Bash."

Blue Oyster Cult, Living Colour, Tributosaurus as The Police, and the carnival, indeed were all crowd pleasers. (Read one local man's concert review here.) But some of the lesser-known attractions are what many people think really make the Backlot Bash.

With old movies at the Skokie Theatre and at the Library; folk, bluegrass and soul music on two stages; the Backlot Dash 5K and Kids' Run; a free look at the Skokie Heritage Museum and Log Cabin; a chalk artist, classic auto show, pancake breakfast, food, beer and children's activities; the Bash offered something for the entire family well beyond just nighttime rock-and-roll.

The Skokie Park District would like to thank organizational partners and planning committee members at the Village of Skokie, the Skokie Public Library, the Skokie Chamber of Commerce, the Independent Merchants of Downtown Skokie, and School District 219.
