Major mechanical repairs to the Skatium Ice Arena, originally set for this spring and summer, have now been postponed, due to construction bids that unexpectedly came in $700,000 over budget.

According to Skokie Park District Executive Director John Ohrlund, the district’s board of commissioners will reconsider this project in the future. In the meantime, the rink will undergo some important mechanical repairs that will not involve closing the rink.

The annual children’s ice show will remain scheduled for April 4-7. Skatium Ice Arena staff are in the process of rescheduling late spring and summer hockey and figure skating programs. Stay tuned to www.skokieparks.org/skatium-ice-arena for announcements regarding new classes and leagues.
