Pollinators and plants native to Illinois in Skokie Parks
Wet prairies naturally accumulate and filter precipitation, which helps to alleviate flooding and clean stormwater runoff from surrounding areas. This native area will also provide food and habitat for birds, pollinators, and other local fauna. The native flowers and grasses planted here are accustomed to the ecology of our region and will not require additional water or fertilizer once established.
Lawler Park's native habitat areas were made possible in partnership with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the Open Space Lands Aquisition and Development program.
