This week is Women in Horticulture Week, a celebration of women's progress and empowerment in the green industry. Nationally, women make up 47 percent of the workforce, however, within the green industry, this figure drops to just 9 percent. The Skokie Park District is proud to employ two women in the field.

Hannah Kosiek (left photo) is a horticulture specialist with a focus on tree care (she is an ISA-certified arborist) and is the district’s GIS (Geographical Information Systems) coordinator. She graduated from DePaul University with a degree in environmental studies and GIS.

Aneta Tyminski (right photo) is also a horticulture specialist, with a focus on the restoration and expansion of the district’s native pocket prairies. She specializes in the collection and processing of native seeds in the district’s little greenhouse and its community vegetable garden. She graduated from the University of Tampa with a degree in environmental science and a concentration in marine science – biology.
