Khoeun, Reid win park board seats

(4.11.17) Skokie voters spoke last week, returning one of their current park commissioners to office and electing a new board member for the first time since 2005.

Mike Reid, a former president of the board, was re-elected for a third six-year term. Khemarey Khoeun, was elected to the spot being vacated in May by current president Jerry Clarito. 

Over twelve years, Reid has helped to preside over a large-scale park renovation plan, the renovation of the Skatium Ice Arena and the Weber Leisure Center, and the creation of Skokie's Backlot Bash.

Khoeun, a social worker and the vice-president of the board of Chicago's National Cambodian Heritage Museum, believes that she may the first Cambodian-American to be elected to public office in Illinois, and the first Cambodian-American woman to hold public office in the nation.

Both commissioners will be sworn in at the May 16, 2017 board meeting.

According to the Cook County Clerk, the final results of the election were:

Mike Reid – 2,264 votes
Khemarey Khoeun – 1,856 votes
Kenneth J. Mantel – 1,527 votes
